Sayaw Lumbayao!

Last January 11, 2019, a new dawn has broken in the barangay of Lumbayao. In partnership with the Sangguniang Kabataan of Lumbayao, Team Lumbayao has started Sayaw Lumbayao: A Zumba Dance Exercise Activity. Led by the Phillip Ycaza, the project head for Hypertension, a Zumba program was held every Friday and Saturday at 6:00PM in the evening in the Lumbayao Covered Court. Ranging from 30 minutes to an hour, each session was composed of several routines which are easy to follow, involve the whole body, increase the heart rate and most importantly, fun to dance to. The participants, who range from little kids to senior citizens, were initially hesitant but are now committed to dancing as a way to destress and to exercise.

Hypertension, one of the most common chronic diseases in the world, is responsible to more than nine million deaths worldwide. One of the most effective, yet difficult, way to decrease the health risks of hypertension is to lose weight, in which exercise and proper diet is integral. Thus, one of Team Lumbayao's objectives is to help the residents of Lumbayao, especially those diagnosed with hypertension, to modify their lifestyles for an even healthier Lumbayao.
