Zamboanga del Norte, officially, the Province of Zamboanga del Norte, is a province in the Philippines situated within the Zamboanga Peninsula region in Mindanao. Its capital is Dipolog City. Zamboanga del Norte comprises of 25 municipalities, which includes Municipality of Tampilisan and 2 other cities.

Tampilisan, officially, the Municipality of Tampilisan, is a 4th class municipality in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines. It is located in Zamboanga peninsula along the boundary with Zamboanga Sibugay, traversed by the national highway to Zamboanga City. Tampilisan is politically subdivided into 20 barangays. One of those barangays is the Lumbayao.
Barangay Lumbayao is located at the Northern most part of the Muncipality of Tampilisan. To its north is Overview, Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte, to its east is Calucap, Salug, Zamboanga del Norte, to its west is Malila T, Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte, while Molos, Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte is on its south.

Barangay Lumbayao is approximately 12 kilometers away from the Municipality of Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte and 8 kilometers away to the Municipality of Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte.
The barangay has a total land area of about 1, 085, 820 hectares. It has been divided into seven (7) puroks, namely; Abokado, Gmelina, Mangga, Falcata, Mahogany, Santol and Nangka. Furthermore, it has two sitioswhich are Sitio Tiwalos and Sitio Alip. Majority of the land is moderate hilly with the slope approximately 8 to 30%.
