Last July 12, 2019, the team organized a lecture with the theme “Aso’t Pusa ay Alagaan, Upang Rabies ay Maiwasan” and in coordination with the Department of Agriculture Municipal Office. The aim of this activity is to raise awareness to the residents regarding rabies specifically its prevention and control. The topics included in the lecture are regarding responsible pet ownership and rabies; its modes of transmission, symptoms of it in humans and dogs as well as the prevention and control. Bite and non-bite modes of transmission were explained, and the specific animals that can transmit the rabies virus were enumerated. Pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis and their indications were also discussed, along with some first aid tips when exposure was experienced in the barangay. Laws regarding responsible pet ownership were also included in the discussion.
