Nutrisyon at Kalusugan

Updated: Jul 30, 2018

For the month of July, the National Nutrition Council (NNC), along with the Department of Health (DOH), lead the nationwide campaign for the celebration of Nutrition Month. This 44th Nutrition Month celebration has the theme of “Ugaliing magtanim, sapat na nutrisyon aanihin.” It aimed to to encourage the people to become more aware about backyard gardening and improve healthy food consumption of Filipinos, especially in children.

On July 2, 2018, the Lumbayao Elementary School conducted their very own mini-parade in celebration of Nutrition Month. The students were carrying their own vegetables, marching a few meters from the school and back, while singing the “Bahay Kubo” song. We merrily joined the energetic kids with their festivities. Afterwards, we were invited to be the judge in the vegetable display and cooking competition conducted by the school. We started to check each station and their presentations and preparations, while some of us tasted the meal they’ve prepared. We went home that day full from the food we’ve eaten and the joy from the students’s smiles.

The events in the nutrition month celebration hopefully helped the community people have a better understanding of their responsibility about their own health, raising awareness about the importance of nutrition and the factors affecting it.
